Part 5: Chapter 3

Right about that time in Yomotsuhirasaka, Izanami looked anxiously into the black skies. Her connection to the human world was largely dependent upon Yumiko's senses; so long as she was captured by demons, Izanami could not view it, nor could she possess Yumiko to save her.
The movement of the stars was the only connection between the human world and the netherworld remaining. And Nakajima's star was becoming visibly dimmer. Yumiko's star, right next to it, had dimmed so much it was not even visible without squinting. Meanwhile, the ominous red star around them was shining brighter and brighter.
"What happened!? I can't stand this. But I don't have the power to affect the human world..." Muttering with irritation, Izanami's eyes stoped at another star next to them, twinkling slightly.
    "What's that...?"
Could it be another reincarnated god?
Kneeling, Izanami started praying frantically. "I don't know what god you are, but please awaken, for their sake."
As if in answer to the prayer, the star started glowing brighter and brighter. Momentarily, like a supernova, its light brilliantly lit up that area of sky.

Wow, I've been too busy to check in and what progress! Chapter 4 was just starting last I checked. Finally had some free time and with the release of Persona 3 over here less than a week away now I decided to swoop in.

Great work as always though I've not read what I'm missing yet, I'll get to it soon heh.

Also, I was reading the comments on an earlier chapter and the issue of paragraphs came up and something about each sentence being a paragraph in the actual books. Ironically, I just read something on that today.

It seems a lot of Light Novel (quickest example that come to mind are The Slayers and Full Metal Panic) writers in Japan as well as others that have their stories serialized in magazines initially use that method to take up more space and thus get paid more.

Also, Light Novels are geared usually for younger audiences so it makes for easy reading... not too sure that last bit would apply to these, lol.

That kind of makes sense though. These books are probably aimed at middle-school or high school students I'd guess. While entertaining, this is not award-winning fiction by any stretch of the imagination; it's not the type of book I can see a lot of adults reading.

I'd like to share something Aya Nishitani posted on Twitter on November 8th, 2023, which I think sheds light on what he was going for with Narukawa, or what notion was on his mind as he wrote him (and Yumiko and Nakajima):

"Lovecraft's novels gave me such a positive image. This may be the cornerstone of DDS's view of human beings. We know what we are. But there is also another self that we are unaware of, as a vessel in which God dwells."
